Hey, My 14G has been set up for 9 days now and Iam about to do the first water change, There is alot of algae growth on the LR and glass(lots on glass) and well as green/brown grunge or diatoms on the LR. So my question is should I be cleaning the stuff of the LR and scraping the glass? didn't know if I should leave it for the cleanup crew. But I wanted to take it slow and not add the CUC till week 3 or 4. Also I have the lights on for 10 hours, didn't really start low and work my way up due to a lack of timers, but they are hooked up now. Should I light for less time due to the rapid growth of algae?

Thanks again

i think you can scrape the coraline of the glass that you actually look at the tank through but leave it anywhere else. makes it look pretty. oh wait do you mean that you have coraline or the grunge sorry im a doof

I have the grunge on the LR and lots of green algae on the glass, should I clean the LR and glass or leave it for the CUC. Is it normal to get alot of green algae on the glass or should I shorten the light time, about 10 hrs right now.

thx

Yeah, leave the diatoms on the rock and scrape the glass :). If you're getting lots of diatoms you're usually ready for cleanup crew. Any idea what your water chemistry is like?

yeah...I just did the water change and I read in another post to scrape the diatoms and glass....so thats what I did. Too late now I guess. Is it still OK? water chem. is as follows:
nitrate: less then 10ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
Alk:300ppm
PH:8.3
ammonia: 0.1

Looks good, when that ammonia goes to 0 you can add the cleanup crew :)
