Cleaning Ocean Rock?

Hi all,

I'm looking to change stock in my Malawi tank (as yet not sure to what) and there is about £100 of Ocean rock in it. The problem I have is it's gone all green. It's not algae on the surface you can scrub off, this seems stained onto it. The bottoms of the rock hidden in the bed are their original creamy colour but nothing I have tried can clean it back to the original colour.

I have tried boiling water, scourers and elbow grease and even tried putting it in the dark for some time in the hope this may fade it but no joy.

Next step I'm thinking to try is to take it all out and bleach it, then thoroughly blast it with a pressure washer to remove the bleach.
Does anyone have experience of cleaning this stuff and knows of a sure-fire way to get it done?

Thanks!

Bleach should work. You don't need to pressure wash it; just rinse really well in plenty of clean water, and then soak it in some water with a double dose of dechlorinator added to it

Oh yes, you want a thin, cheap one, which is chlorine; the thick, scented ones have other ingredients in that might be very hard to clear off.

Thanks guys, very helpful :)
Will pick some up tomorrow and try it. :good:

Thanks!
