Cleaning my canister filter

I just bought a Rena Filstar XP3 and i was wondering if i clean it by rinsing everything down with tank water? Will this ruin the bacteria in the filter and cause ammonia and nitrite spikes? The manual says rinse the canister, the baskets, the impeller, and medias. Im jus wondering if this wll disturb anything?

Yes, it is better if you rinse out and clean the filter, and its media in tank water because this way you do not kill beneficial bacteria.

If you did clean the filter with tap water you would destroy the bacteria present in your filters media.
