Hi everyone,

my girlfriend and i have decided to start a saltwater aquarium and so we are at the stage where we are getting the live rock. we have be trying to find a shop that sales live rock cured or even partly cured but they all say their's are not cured, so we have to do it. would really like some help on how do you clean the rock? should we clean it in the saltwater mix and then throw that water away afterwards? or can we just use freshwater? also would it be alright cleaning it with a toothbrush. we were thinking making a saltwater mix for cleaning it and another mix for curing it. is this the right way to do it?
we would be really grateful for any advice.
Thanks in advance.

I'm on my iPhone so I can't be as detailed as I'd like to be. You should clean it off in SW, definitely.

Really?! Not a single place sells cured? That's odd to me, but I'm from Miami. First two things you see in most good LFS are their display tanks & then, their huge LR holding tanks. Where are you?

That being said. You can totally work with uncured, it just takes a little longer. If the tank has nothing in it that's alive, a lot of people will opt to cure the LR in the tank. How big is your planned system? What have you done so far?

Supposedly, the curing also really stinks, but I cheated & used cured LR.

thanks for your help. in the end we actually found a dealer which sold cured live rock. but it is the only one in Hong Kong that we could find that does, well in our area that is. we were only thinking of getting 2-3 fish so our saltwater tank isnt too big. its around 20-25L. we have the saltwater ready and got all the equipement we need. we added the live rock last night and the funny thing is that is already have a creature in it. last night a crap came out of it and then ran straight back in after seeing up starring at it.

just one question. how long work you give it until we add our first fish? also we want to get clown fish, when would you think it would be safe to add a clown fish?

thanks for all your help.
