Do I boil it? Or bake it? Or just rinse it really well?

Also, should I wait and wash it right before I fill my tank with water? Or will it be ok sitting in the empty tank for a week or two?

Thanks...

I just found some old things of mine in the garage today, plastic plants and a ceramic log. Cheesy I know but I am desparate for something to take up space until my plants get bigger and I get the bogwood that I want. I put them in the sink, stopper in, and put in the hottest water I could from the faucet. Then I poured boiling water from the tea kettle over them and let them sit good and long. They seemed fine afterwards and they are already in my tank as of now. Granted mine weren't mildewed from storage or anything, they seemed in good shape I just wanted them clean.

Yah, mine isn't mildewed or anything, just quite dusty, and it is a hollow "castle/rock" type deal.

So, boil it *check*.

What about letting it sit for 1-2 weeks? Or should I wait until I get ready to fill it?

Thanks again.

You could boil it now and just do a hot rinse later. Waiting probably won't do any more than just sitting around has so I guess it depends on preference.

ok thanks.

Lol, I got impatient and boiled it regardless. I don't have anything better to do...

Thanks for the info though,

Toothbrushes are awesome for cleaning tank stuff, from ornaments and rocks to fake plants and driftwood. And the fit into the intake pipe of most filters too.
