Clean Up Crew

Hey, now hopefully on firday im gunna order most of my clean up crew... finally. Any who, Problem both STM and UDA have 1 type of snail out fo stock that i want.

My aim is to get:
6 red legs
6 ceriths or 6 Nassarius.
1 Emerald Mithrax crab.

So Uda has the ceriths but not the Nassarius and STM have the Nassarius and not the ceriths, the price isnt too much of an issue as its roughly 5 quid difference.

I read that Nassarius are like the snail version of red legs so would it be wiser to get ceriths instead? I will have all 2 types when they sell em again.

Ceriths do a better job of cleaning the rocks and the nass do a better job of turning the substrate

IMO it's best to get both although that's gonna be a problem as only one site has them in

Red legs do turn the substrate also but IME they spend most of their time on the rocks
If you can only get one i'd probably go for the cerith but be careful that's one of the redlegs favourites treats!

i have both, and i enjoy watching the nassarius more than the ceriths. and yes redlegs do love them ceriths, i came home last night to the site of one of my redlegs taking over a cerith shell welcome to life in the reef

i had a problem with an Emerald crab eating shrimps and small damsels just to warn you

really? never heard that before. what kind of shrimp were they? also is it common for them to do that, and with crabs as well?

hmm ok, ill probs just get the snails. Ive got 1 hermit atm and its an electic blue, ski bought some, they are really cool and very nice to my lonly hitchhiker turbo.

Really? well for once most crabs are oppotunist eaters so might read up on them still. (sp?).

I my 180 litre tank I got

10 Nassarius vibex Snails
10 small mexican Cerith Baja Snails
1 Mexican Turbo Snail
8 Scarlet reef hermits (aka redleg hermits)
5 Trochus Snails
1 Dwarf Brittle Starfish
2 Skunk cleaner shrimps
2 True peppermint shrimps
2 Porcelain crabs

They are a good mix, get on well and are fun to watch. The porcelain crabs are wicked and not aggressive at all.
