What is the rite way to clean a tank

GLass can be cleaned with a pan scrubber type thing (new) either by hand or on a stick. Gravel needs a gravel vac to shift all the debris amongst it. Sand hover over with a siphon

ellena, has you covered with the tank, but remember that when you clean any filter media, make sure you clean it in a bucket of aquarium water, otherwise you will kill all of your good bacteria.

crap, i cleaned one of the 3 or 4 filter pads in my filter in tap water, but the other ones didnt go in the tap water, plus i refilled the filter with tank water, would i still kill all the bacteria?

The tap water would kill beneficial bacteria on those filter pads. How many pads are there in total in your filter?
