My lfs has some clams they are about £25

I have no knowledge of clams but I do like them, they have a red inside?

do they coexist with fish, shrimps, crabs and snails well

are they any danger in a reef tank

oh and also I only have a small 94l tank is that too small for a clam

I appreciate I;d probably need the definate name but can;t recall it sorry

I intend to keep clams in my tank once its a bit more mature there are 4 main types we get in for the Marine tank Crocea,Maxima,Deresea and Squasmosa they all have very diffrent requirements with regards to lighting I suspect the RR94 would not have enough light to keep one under :( Squasmosas need the lowest but do Grow to about 12"

I would suggest reading lots on these if they are something you are intrested in :good:

thats a bummer but something for the future when i have a bigger and better set up!!

saw a emperor angelfish in my lfs today displayin the adult colours in there display set up.its gorgeous and something else for the future as well

It has 2 65watt PC bulbs correct? I think you could be OK with a squasmosa or Derasa under that lighting as long as you keep it up high on the rockwork. Croceas and maximas are definitely no-go's.

I currently keep a 4" Derasa under 130Watt PC lighting in my 29G, which would be the same lighting. It seems to be happy.

Apparently they like to be in the sand more than the rockwork, however, I didn't find that out until after my clam had attached to the rock so he's kinda stuck there now. I heard of suggestions of putting a "pool" of sand on some rock and then him on top.

your Deresa is ace Nemo

just been having a good read up on them now I know names

I;m really interested in these just the issue with lighting

my t5 Bulbs say 36w on them never checked them before for wattage

I'll have a look on ebay now but can you upgrade t5 lighting without cutting away at hood ie stronger wattage bulbs that fit same connectors in hood?

so could i keep one if i had LED lighting? it would be 1 aquabeam 1000 marine white in the middle of the tank so could i have a clam in the middle of the tank? i will also have 6 aquabeam 500 (5 white 1 blue) in the tank. Because 1 aquabeam 500 is the same as a 24W t5 light with reflecter but run at 12Ws?

Most likely not, but check the ballast. It will list the highest wattages it can support.

Putting it on the 125 Harry? If so, definitely would be good for the lower light clams, not sure about the higher.

no i was thinking when i upgrade but if i put some on now (the aquabeam 1000 and 2 500s) would i be able to have one?

It depends on how many LEDs on a 4 x 2 x 2 you would need 3 x 1000 and roughly 6 x Aquabeam 500 Duos and then you may be able to keep a squasmosa.

ok thanks :good: sorry simon for sort of taking over your topic
