Hi all,
I have a platy in my community tank downstairs that recently started clamping his fins and tail completely tight randomly and being rather anti social. As soon as I saw this change in him, I moved him to a hospital tank. This was over a week ago- and now he has his fins clamped Constantly, and has lost a considerable amount of weight although he is eating. As there is absolutely nothing visible externally, I assumed he was suffering from internal parasites and started treatment. Now, however, one of my platies in an all platy tank upstairs (that has never had any contact with the community tank downstairs, I even use separate nets) is every once in a while seen clamping her fins and acting sketchy. She is VERY plump, and doesn't always act this way. Does anyone have any suggestions of what this might be or something that I'm missing? Thanks!

There are a few options. It is very unlikely that the problem in internal paracites, unless your platy is wild caught(highly unlikely) as internal paracites need birds in part of their lifecyle, before they can infect other fish. I suppose it could be internal bactiria, or water poisoning. Please could you fill in a "consult form" (see pinned topic), so that we can start troubleshooting.
