I have a pesky aiptasia which is living on the top side of my clam's shell and stinging it's mantle. I have been holding back from injecting it with anything as I don't want to hurt my clam. I've got some jobs to do tomorrow which I'll be using epoxy putty. I know I can use putty to secure the clam but could I cover the aiptasia on it's shell with the putty? I'm assuning I can but I want to check first.

Sure, putty is a well accepted method for killing aiptasia. Ae you really going to glue your clam to one spot? I think that might be a very bad idea (Please, let me know if im wrong, id like to see this info.). If they don't like certain conditions, they will move accordingly. Thats all part of having a clam. :p (Check your Colt coral fragging thread, I replied with a post which has nothing to do with receiving a portion, LOL).

You're correct Mr. M, do not glue the clam itself to the substrate. The clam should be allowed to use its byssal threads to attach to a rock itself as thats what they do in the wild. But it is also ok to kill aiptasia by covering it in epoxy putty :D. What kind of clam is it? Derasa? Crocea? Maxima? Squamosa?

Sorry I didn't explain myself very well. I'm not going to stick the clam to the rocks, I'm going to make a base for it to sit on and let it cure first so the clam has a secure seat. I moved it up the rocks a few days ago and it seems happy but I'm not confident that it won't fall off. We had an urchin induced rockfall last night aswell so I'll be sticking the rocks together.

What I want to do with the clam is make a base for it to sit on, around 1/4" thick then gently press the clam into it to leave an imprint of the bottom of it's shell. Let this cure out of the water, then stick the base onto the rocks and allow the clam to stick itself onto it. If the clam doesn't stick I can always hide the base with a coral. I was just worried about having the putty touching the clams mantle as it cures.

My first job today is urchin proofing my rockwork. Oh and fragging :good:
