for my 240l tank, which is like 4ft long, how many lph should a good circulation pump be. im looking for one to blow around co2 and to help stop dead spots

would 5000 lph be too much?

thanks

What kind of fish do you have?

5000 lph is around X20 turnover. For a regular community planted tank I would say this is probably too much (the average reef tank has X20 turn over and that is a lot of water movement).

I would say get a couple of really small powerheads (like 500lph max for a standard direct flow powerhead like a maxijet) and put one at each end. Try to have them so they dont desturb the surface to much if you are injecting CO2.

Couple of Korillia nanos would probably work well as they have good "indirect" flow. So gets the water moving well around the tank without having a jet stream of water cutting through your plants and fish :)

i think it will be angles and gouramis.

i have kind of accidently got a 5000lph one. i put in an offer on ebay for a very cheap price and he accepted.

if i fine it too strong it will sell it on again and get a few smaller ones

Not too much IME, I have over 20x in my planted tank with lots of shrimp and catfish and it's great, could probably use even more.
I've seen even higher on some tanks too.
I've seen 15x on a discus tank work perfectly fine.

It's overkill, yes, but I wouldn't bother selling the powerhead if you already have it.
Just mod a spray bar to it (make holes in filter hose), angels and gouramis will do great as long as its not as fast in some areas of the tank.

If its a Hydor, just aim it slightly up or slightly at the glass and it will be fine.

If it's not, make the spraybar I mentioned.
