I'm sure you guys get this question all of the time, but are there any cichlids (either type) that can tolerate the same water perimeters that fish like mollies, and catfish can? I'm getting a 60 gallon tank today, and would like to have (if possible) some cichlids in with "regular" tropical fish. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Laetacara dosigera or curviceps :D (Search the scientific names on google or another search site to learn more and see pics)

well it should be told anyways, just so the person doent get ones that get eaten.

Get a pair of Keyhole cichlid... I have 1 in my community tank with the fish posted and he's great....there calm and dont get very big  ....Just my suggestion though...

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Unforunately, I have a hard time find rams around here. What about kribs? (are they cichlids even? :*) ) What about severums, electric yellows, kenyi, firemouths? Sorry that I don't have the scientific (and in some cases, the right names). I like rams and angelfish, I'm just curious as to all of my options. What about servis (sun servis?)? Or is their ph requirement not the same? Thanks again for all of your help. :D :D

Don't know much about alot of cichlids other than mbunas, but

Kenyi (maylandia lombardoi) No
Electric Yellow(labidochromis caeruleus) Highly advise against it, so No, has worked in very rare cases

What aboout Keyhole, and cockatiel?
they may work too but idon't know either

I like those keyholes...if I can fish them, I'll probably go with them. Will there be any problems, since my tank is deep? It's 36 inches long, 15 inches wide, 28 inches deep. It's about 65 US gallons.

What about those "assorted cichlids" they sell sometimes? I imagine it's really a crap shoot, since you usually have no idea what their parents were. Probably advised against it?

In my lfs's these are always african mbuna cichlids like electric yellows and kennyi requireing different parameters than most community fish

Extreme agresion from mbuna would not allow them to be placed in a community tank

Well in my community tanks I have had angels, rams, keyholes, kribs and apistogramma's and they have all worked out great just don't put small neons with any of these fish as they get get eaten or beaten up! Keyholes are the best and in the future you could put rams or apistgramma's with them as they get along great! Good luck with the tank
