Hey

Does anyone know how toxic/dangerous the venom is from Neolamproglogus similis? Cant really find much online about it.

they don't have any venom
from this page: https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/neolamprologus-similis/

Behaviour and Compatibility

A territorial species that will defend its shell and surrounding small territory with real venom. It can be combined with other species that inhabit other areas within the aquarium, though. Good tankmate choices include small rockdwellers such as Neolamprologus brichardi or smaller species of Julidochromis and open water species such as Cyprichromis. If a number of fish are kept, it will form a colony. If keeping it in this type of situation, make sure there are lots of shells and try to keep more females than there are males.

they don't have any venom

never heard of any cichlid having venom.
Not a cichlid expert, but never heard of any cichlid containing venom. I also looked it up and peered through some websites - none relevant to the topic. I looked on Wikipedia and fishbase. Nothing.

I believe that the phrase "with real venom" has been misunderstood

They don't have venom...but they can defend their territory to the extreme by showing a really violent temper and hatred towards any intruder...thus...showing pure venom or pure fury at the intruder that could become very physical

The way the article reads can be misleading but reading it myself I would suggest the phrase defend its territory with real venom just means there aggressive and won’t hold back in defending its shell

When I read it the first thing that came to mind was ‘as opposed to fake venom?’. Venom, although less common, can also be a word detailing ruthless actions. It’s weird that they would use it to describe the behavior of a fish!

It's an expression - doing something with venom in some parts of the English speaking world means doing it with passion. It's not literal.

that might explain it

Never heard of that expression personally, but it does make sense. Thanks everyone for your help figuring this out!

I wonder if SF automatically turns words in the text into links to entries in a database, and unfortunately in this case someone used the word venom in a colloquial sense rather than the literal sense but the software couldn't tell the difference.
A bit like a certain their forum which does the same to words in its posts, then when someone on here copies and pastes a post they made in the other forum, the links to that forum are also copied on here. It's almost a full time job spotting these and breaking the link
