Im not new to the hobby but I always used air stones. Anyway my question: Do you keep powerheads on 24/7?

I have a 30 gallon cichlid tank (i know small for cichlids) but I don't have that much room in my bedroom for anything bigger :p

I recently moved my dragon blood peacocks into the 30 gallon from a 10 gallon and the next morning I woke up and one female was dead stuck in powerhead. Im not sure what caused the death, probably cause i moved them to new tank and left lights on (thought I had set a timer).

African cichlids require really high water flow. I have 2 canister filters plus a gyre generator on my tank running 24/7 and they seem really happy. You're right though, your tank is really small for Africans.

Hi GamerTechz:

I do keep the powerhead in my 55g on all the time. I put a sponge prefilter on the powerhead intake when my kribs began to breed. It's possible your peacocks did experience some shock with the move. How close were the parameters in the tank to the old one?
