Hi, i have a 17G planted tank and i was wondering what kind of cichlid i could have in there? i currently have 5 harlequin rasboras, would a Bolivian Ram be ok in there? would it be to small for a pair?

Sam

You could easily have 1, but 2 might cause problems if they don't actually pair up. Might is the key word.

edit: there are a few other species you could choose from too, but you seem interested in bolivian ram already

I would be more than happy to consider other species if they are more suited to pairing up in my tank, the fishes well being is my no1 priority :)

Well it would probably be best if someone else advised on stocking, but to get you started on some different species:
blue ram microgeophagus ramirezi (gold colour morph available)

kribensis pelvicachromis pulcher (and other pelvichromis sp. fish)

apisto agassizi apistogramma agassizii
dwarf cockatoo cichlid apistogramma cacatuoides
panda apisto apistogramma nijsseni
apisto borelli apistogramma borellii
panda apisto apistogramma panduro
other apistogramma sp. fish

flag cichlid laetacara curviceps (or other laetacara sp. fish)

checkerboard cichlid dicrossus sp.

hmm, i still think i prefer the ram most.... how would one be on its own? are they more content in a pair? would a well crafted aquarium for fill its needs?

A single Ram would be fine on his/her own

water is at pH 7.2 right now :)

What are shell dwellers like?

rightio, any other small cichlids that would be happy in that pH...?

Currently i have 8 rummy nose tetras and 5 harlequins, the plan is to rehouse the tetras and get another fish(or 2) but would i be ok to have the tetras rasboras and the ram whilst i rehouse the tetras or would i be to overstocked then?

and i guess the ram will be ok on flake and frozen bloodworms?

well i hope they rehome soon, they are going to be given away on the forum or returned to a shop :)
