How long is necessary to soak cichlid pellets before feeding

You don't need to soak them? just chuck them in

But they swell up when they start to take in water, will they not swell in the fish after they eat them

No, just feed them as they are... What pellets specifically are you talking about?

It was hikari staple pellets, I was going to get the exel but was told there aint much difference. Only in price.

If you soak pellets before feeding, they lose a lot of their vitamin content. Always feed fresh from the packet. Hikari are a great staple diet for cichlids.

May I ask what the precise definition of a staple diet is? The only reason I ask is because I heard somewhere that a staple-only diet isn't ideal yet most of my fish food is defined as being a staple diet.

im guessing it means 'this is fine, but if you want happier fish, give them something a bit more... live (or once live)... once in a while'
