hi guys,

I am totally new to this and still researching- I really like colourful fish and was thinking of doing a cichild tank as they seem to be the family with the most colours. Are angel fish from the cichild family? Do all cichilds get along?

Thanks

yes angelfish are cichlids, so too are discus. no not all cichlids play nicely.

Angels are a type of new world/american cichlid. There from south american. How big a tank do you plan?
Whats your PH? In high ph 8+ oldworld/african cichlids will work best but there are a few CA cichlids that can live at high ph. If its lower then it will be best for SA and some CA cichlids.
What you can have really depends on the tank size and whether you want alot of smaller fish or a few bigger ones.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I am still in the researching process and am not in a rush- of course I cant wait to have my aquarium but I want to do it as best I can. What size tank do i need if i want to have cichlids? I need something that I will be able to move if i decide to change house so it has to be freestanding. I have my heart set on having african cichlids- what size tank would i need ? Is there any one from the Juwel range that will do? I would like a variation of very small and small/medium fish.

Thanks

Natasha

Tank size varys alot depending on what you want. If you go for shell dwellers 10G+ will be fine. Your best of trying to find few fish you like and then try and find a tank to suit them. Your best asking the the african cichlid section because you will get alot more info over there.

Hello, cichlids as stated range from a few inches, right up to some serious tank busters ranging 3foot...Then you have the placid types, aggressive and very aggressive, so best as said looking in new world area and old world,.look at the pinned threads where people like ourselves have posted pictures and lists of what we have, what troubles weve suffered etc
