Because... Giving me 120 dollars is just asking for trouble. At Wal-mart, I picked up a Regent Aqua Fun (Explorer II to you Americans- why do we get the stupid name?) Very happy fishie, he tried to eat his new live plants, and seems to light this version of light better than the old one.

Today... I got new females. Five. Three whites, two Pharoahs. And some Pygmy cories. Adorable, the ten gallon finally seems perfect. I've got a big white female with pale, nearly transparent Butterfly markings, a perfectly white little girl, and a pearlescent pink Cambodian. Not iridescent, pearlescent. Gorgeous. The Pharoahs have overlays, but are indeed Pharoahs under the right light. Steel and turquoise iridescents. I'm pretty sure they're all related, since Aqua Tropicale seems to be a warehouse outlet for fish (they even say so on their order-forms) and I'm pretty sure they breed their own fish, or buy from a very close breeder. HUNDREDS of Bettas in cups; males, females, solids, markeds, Crowns, short-tailed males.

Four are getting along fine, the little white, Cambodian and both blues. The big white seems to be a bit aggressive, but she decided to pick on the masked steel girl- who's bigger- rather than the smaller females. Got her butt kicked, is now moping. Some of the males in the store were jumping to bite me as I picked them out from the back, where the girls were hidden. And someone knocked a beautiful Butterfly Crown onto the concrete. Poor boy.

Yep, fishies. I just need a few names for them, now. The cories are already the Little Pigs, but the Grrlies need some names.

How about naming the big white one Rosa. Reminds me of someone I know :D

Well, I have a few names now; Xena for the turquoise, and Athena for the white. Fighters, they are. I watched them this morning, flaring and strutting and whapping each other with their tails. They're the only ones fighting now, the other three have settled down and decided who is who, but Xena and Athena are still fighting for the alpha female spot.

There's also Little Girl, the smallest female, pure white with a tiny speck of red on her tail. Not a mark on her, because whenever someone flared she turned and swam away. The steel and cambodian are still unnamed, though.

These girls are fun to watch. They follow the cories and hunt the few guppy fry that escaped my net, and then they float around and hide in the plants. I hope one discovers the cave soon, that will be fun to see.
