Choya Wood

Ok I just got some ghost shrimp recently and I didnt have anything for them to kind of hide in so i got some choya wood from my old hermit crab cage and cleaned it and everything and put it in the tank. They love it, they get in it, clean it, and everything so if you're looking for something cheap to get to put in your tank for ghost shrimp, get choya wood.

Is this the stuff available like in the reptile sections of pet stores, or is this the small pieces you see in the hermit crab sections? I'm on the lookout for good wood for either the 10 or 5 gallon....which ever I go with. Its gonna house among other things ghost shrimp.

You can get small pieces like near where you get hermit crab stuff but what i like to do is take fishing line and tie them together and make it look natural. (P.S. You need to make sure you get like fishing line and tie it to a rock or something and attach it to the wood to ensure it wont float.)Also sadly all four of my ghost shrimp died. It sure as heck wasnt because of the wood but its still odd. They didnt make it 2 days.

Wow sorry to hear about that. Was your water cycled? Sometimes ghost shrimp will die like that. I think its because of how they mass breed em.....there's bound to be some disease somewhere there. The good thing is they are so cheap you can get some more.

Water was cycled and everything, the only thing that may have been a problem was the nitrates are a little high. Other than that everything was fine. And though they are so cheap I'm kind of bummed out because the female was pregnant and i was looking forward to learning about taking care of the young. Maybe I can find another one at my lfs, they had tons.
