Choosing A Rasbora

I have a 29 gallon planted tank and I am looking for a colorful schooling species to my tank. I was thinking harlequin vs. espei Rasbora. I was hoping to choose the species that schools the best with the best red color. Also is there a difference in coloration between juveniles and adults? Often the Rasboras I see in the pet shop look washed out. Not sure if that is bad breeding or stress. Any thoughts? Or is there a better place to purchase these fish other than a local pet shop?
