just a quick one, just about to purchase a new external filter, and have the choice of a new fluval 405, or the allpond solutions 2000lph system, with uv,
so which one do i go for,
have been offered both at roughly the same price?
so not sure which to run for,
any personal experiences from anyone,
or an idea of which will be the better filter in the long run,

cheers

I've got the allpondsolutions 1000lph and although its doing a good job filtration wise, the plastic tubes are quite flimsy, I cracked mine when connecting the spraybar and i dont think im the first to do so. I had to use aquarium silicone or something like that to stop it from completely busting. It's not the end of the world but annoying.

Go for whichever one is larger. I have no experience of the Fluval, but have 2 of the APS filters and would thoroughly recommend them.

in my point of view..

allpondsolution = a bread and butter filter.
fluvel = big sponge filter = need to be cleand all the time or flow will be reduced in days...

eheim is the one u need.. ( not the ecco range...)

I bought the same APS filter you're thinking of to replace my rena xp3. i can say even though it's not a massive brand name it's by far the better filter 4 baskets, pretty good flow rate (not what it says on the box but still ok), good media package supplied, with plenty of room for more, all round good filter. bad points it takes a bit of effort to get the air out and is slightly noisier (i can only compare to the rena)

I thought I would comment to give a balanced view

I have to disagree with you on that I have a Fluval 405 and it does not act in any way in the manor you describe, I find it is about 2 to 3 months before the flow starts to be affected of course this would be affected slightly by what media set have you use in it and what stocking you have.

Fluval 405 is a great filter built well and runs real quiet the crinkle hose is a bit of a downer but one can change it to smooth hose if you want.

It primes first time every time.

I would highly recommend it :good:

The Fluval 05 range is simply magnificent.

I have a Fluval 205 and I have never had any problems with it. :good:
