When i get my big tank(345gals) i want to stock alot of small growing L number plecs, very much in particular chocolate zebra plecs because i found a lfs that stocks them so i know i can get hold of them unlike zebra plecs which i have no idea where i will be able to get hold of.
I would like to breed chocolate zebra plecs in particular amoungst other types of plecs, i cannot find much info on them though as far as breeding concerned though but i have gathered they are very similar in breeding habits and requirements to normal zebra plecs...I have gathered they breed in tubes/small caves and enjoy a powerful filter current in the tank and you need around 2-3females per male, they grow to 4inchs max but i am not sure on what kind of foods they need-would frozen daphinia, bloodworms, small krill and tubifex surfice?
I have gathered that apart from excellent water quality and a powerful filter current, they like a sand based substrate and randomly piled up rocks and pebbles for them to hide in the crevaces. In my big tank when i get it, the 3 main enviroments i am setting up in it are rocky piled up areas where the filter current is strongest, large bogwood piles making caves for my 2common plecs and 1sailfin plec to sleep in during the day, and large heavily planted areas and also large open expanses of fine white silica sand, which i have in my current tanks at the mo.
Would this make a good breeding enviroment and an advice on a good diet to condition them on for breeding and general feeding?
The tank is going to have very peaceful fish, so far i am having
guppys
mollys
platys
neon tetras
2 common plecs
1 sailfin
6-8 armoured shrimp
Peppered, panda, albino corys
3 clown loachs
8 khuli loachs
hillstream loachs
various other small L no plecs including my current para plec
And perhaps a differnt type of peaceful tetra or 2.
Taking into consideration of the space of the tank, would the chocolate plecs be bothered by the other fish as long has they had enough of they own fav enviroment in the tank?
I would greatly appreiciate any advice to creating the perfect enviroment for these fish and breeding info as i want to become a more serious fish breeder and help increase the numbers of some rare fish to help boost their species numbers .
Thankyou for your time .
