how long will it take a 2.5" guy take to out grow a 55 gallon tank?

Probably about 18 months. Difficult to give an accurate answer without knowing your current stock.

The chocolate plec or "Rhino plec" are the common names given to (Pterygoplichthys scrophus)

Yea thats the right kind, sorry Rocknurworld, thats the way my LFS labeled it as and when i googled him, thats what came up so i justed used that name...its is a Pterygoplichthys scrophus (Thanks Davo!)...Thanks also for the reply Bert!

is there anything else i could feed him...i know they eat algae but i dont want him to have to scrounge all the time lol....
