Chistmas gift for grandparents HELP!

Well I really need someones help here. Some professional help nevertheless. Okay, here is my story. My Grandparents love nature and gardens but because of thier health becoming an issue of what they can and cannot do i dont know what to get them. Knee problems and Bad back and legs. . I was looking through my Drs Foster and Smith catalog at nature stuff and I think I hit jackpot. Here is a link to the item. LINK HERE I thought I would get come lillies and really pretty top dwelling flowers in thier. But they wouldnt have to do like...a billion of water changes or clean up on it right? I would have to get some misquito dunks and stuff for it but i though this would be great. ALSO, i live in Upstate New york neer the canadian border and didnt know if some common fish would be ok in thier that wouldnt require any matenence like feeding or whatnot. Maybe some frogs or toads? Snails? Catfish or koi? Something would be great. I just need a matenece check or whatever. I only have a 50 gallon popup pond but im not using it right now though. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

since you live in new york, it would probably freeze over during the winter months right? and the lillies might not do so well in the cold temperature. since this 'pond' is only 28 gallons, i don't think it would be deep enough so that fish could live beneath the ice (as happens in natural ponds).
it would be good for the summer months though, with some mosquito fish or something.
