Hey,

I was wondering I got a used 55 gallon tank and I have noticed that there is a slight chip on the outside where the seam is. It is not deep but will it cause the tank to leak or break?

Thanks

Man! I thought you meant you dropped potato chips in your tank. Don't do that! :D

I don't know about the chip, but it would suck to lose a 55g tank to a chip. :/

Edit: Oh! And welcome to the forum!

hahahaha
sorry jusuit i jacked your post

i don't think a chip will explode your tank but just to be safe you could put more sealant on it or a tank patch perhaps? :dunno:

Is it on the inside or the outside of the tank. How far through the tank? Perhaps add some silicone (sp) to the area to help prevent leaks. Are you afraid of leaks or that it will bust? Is it high or low on the tank side? All these questions I know but there is much less pressure up high so I'm hoping it is there...

is this chip on the side? the bottom?

if it's on the side, there's no way in hell

the bottom...maybe...if the chip is 1/2 as deep as the glass or more, then get it checked out, if not, don't worry about it

glass is much stronger than you think

Thanks everyone for the advice. To clarify the chip is on the outside of the tank on the side but closer to the bottom and it is only like a small sliver. I don't think it is very deep i was just kinda nervous. I certainly wouldn't want it to explode or leak after I put in all that hard work filling it up.

Thanks

My 70 litre tank has a couple of chips like that, one actually is a chunk of class knocked out on the edge. Its neither noticable nor a problem. I'd just have a very very close look to make sure there are no hairline cracks around the imapct. If there are none I'd not worry about it.
