Chinatown betta containers

On the left in the ivy bowl is Pitchfork, how he was stored like the rest of the fighters at one of the Chinatown LFSs.
On the right in the Snapple bottle is Shiva, the way another store in Chinatown stores most of its wild-type/fighters.

To answer your question - no, I do not let them live this way. I thought it be prudent to show their LFS living conditions.

How do you get a betta in and out of a snapple container?

I use a cutoff Poland Spring water bottle as a funnel. It fits snug on top of the Snapple opening. To get them out, just get a 2-inch net and put it right at the opening at the mouth of the bottle. Stop pouring when the betta hits the net.

The guy who I bought my coppers from keeps about 60 of them like this - about 65% are young females, from 3 to 5 months old.

Betta in a bottle, now you can have a pet that goes everywhere with you in your handbag.

It is sad to see that even here, in a country where we almost have a law that says no fish under a 40 litre tank, in some stores they keep bettas in really, really small containers

Perhaps not, but I have seen all things from cups to vases and worst of all the Sponge Bob 'tank'

Just looks like these fish are most often abused and by the state of my lfs, I can see it being common here too.

I at first thought you were refering tot he spongebob 1.8 gallon tank and then realized you were talking about the pineapple shaped crappy thing. Yeah i agree. I think if it isnt 1 gallon it shouldnt hold a fish. Just my $.02

better conditions then my lfs... i wouldnt complain...at least they can swim in there

yeah, its still way betta than the jam containers they use, the only time i saw one free was when someone knocked the jar into the plant tank,
thinking about that, what would happen if the whole walls worth of bettas fell into the tank (not seperated) ..... oooh dear, accident waiting to happen..

tell your friend to switch to "sobe" bottles instead. they hold more water, take up the same amount of space and the mouth is bigger

The only prob I found at Bettas not being inside bowls at the LFS is that they just don't have a large enough stock They only had two Bettas in massive tanks with the plants in it but Its better for the Bettas in the long run
