Hello,
I've go a rosy tetra thats died today after a brief illness. It was hanging around the heater this morning with its head higher than the tail and was dead a few hours later. This is a worry to me as I have lost two angel fish months ago with the same symptoms. A close examination revealed nothing abnormal except the fins had been nibbled.
Now, another tetra is starting to swim leaning over to the left or right sometimes, but most of the time looks normal.
I have recently had a outbreak of snails which have decimated the plants.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be happening & any remedies?

Water - PH 7.0 -dont have any tests for the other chemicals
Water changes- 1/4 every 2 weeks
Chemicals - anti-chorine in new water, some plant food product
Fish - 1xsucker, 2xrosy tetra, 2xneon tetra, 3x guppy
Tank 60L
No new fish

How long has the tank been set up? I would definately invest in getting a kit to test for Nitrite and ammonia as this could be down to Nitrite poisoning. Snails will increase the load of the tank but unless there is Loads of them I wouldn't have thought they would put the waste up that high.

I've had similar problems with one particular type of fish I've got but apart from a a very slight elevation in Nitrite I havent been able to find a problem yet.

What type of sucker have you got in the tank? 60L is about 16 US gallons, if the sucker is a Pleco it'll definately grow too big for the tank, Plecs also put out quite a lot of waste and if the tank isn't cycling properly you could have elevated levels. My 10 gal tank I have to do water changes weekly sometimes twice a week.

Hope this helps :)

Swim blatter perhaps? Sometimes when fish stuff themselves they kind cram their swim blatter which puts em off balance. How much to do feed them and how often?

Definitely get some tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate if you can. A lot of fish illnesses and deaths are caused by ammonia or nitrite poisoning so it would be good to rule that out.

When did you last do a water change? As Lithril says, this should help matters, so if you haven't done one in the last week then do an immediate change of about 30% and see if that makes a difference.
