Anyone doing anything for it?

I work at the local youth club and working tonight so have lots of activities planned.
The kids have been brilliant, they've made buns and cakes all week so they can sell them and donate the money.
There is also a sponsored silence, sponsored press ups, sponsored laps of the building. They've set up bikes rides to be done in their own time as insurance purposes wouldn't allow us to do it with them. Ping pong, football, tennis and four hours straight of the game 'just dance'.

It should be a good night.

I intend to watch it, feel occassional guilt because of the sad story videos and then text some money in.

Pretty much my standard operating procedure for any televised charity event.

I may be the epitome of grumpy-old-manhood, but I would rather would rather gouge my eyes out with nuclear reactor fuel rods, then attempt to heal the wounds with stinging nettles soaked in Homebase ammonia, than watch Children In Need.

Not done anything personally, but my daughter has at school. They had to take in a load of change to make a giant pudsey on the school playground. Looked quite good when i went to pick her up.

Im sick of being guilt tripped into giving money when i just dont have it to spare... im already paying money to two seperate counties for Wildlife Trust and a charity called Shelter (since i was 16 and they helped me out a bit)...

Now i have been forced to move back in with my parents when i ran out of money after breaking up with my ex... i might be 23 but i am seriously a child in need now!! (Need to escape from here!!).

I guess i always feel really bad... red nose day gets me worst...

TBH there is a shed load of children in need in this country, heck knows, nobody helped me. Maybe im just bitter!! But i blame a LOT of problems on the parents. Some people just ought to be steralised before they can start breeding and ruining not just their own lives but other people lives too.

Have to agree to some extent, especially on the sterilisation of some people.
You need a licence to have a television and a dog but not to have a child.

Having said that, the children don't deserve to suffer.

The grand total raised by our youth club last night was £72.50.
Not bad for a group of 22 eleven-fifteen year olds.

Anyone who cant spare a 5er must be either homeless or away with the fairies, i understand life aint easy (for 99.9% of people) but when it comes down to a few quid if you aint willing to donate then your a bit selfish IMO, considering your sat on a pc with a internet connection, in a chair in a warm house etc etc, could go on.

I only donated a 5er which is a bit of a pittance on what i could 'spare' meaning actual living costs taken away i coulda given more, but still ent so far up my own #14### that i think my problems are worse than the peoples this money is going too.

Directed at anyone who could have donated but didnt

I won't take credit for it TropicalLad21 as it was the kids who raised it all and had fun whilst doing so. I donated a small ammount, but I understand some people cannot donate due to their circumstances/expenses elsewhere.

Exactly this.

Seems a bit harsh saying that anyone who can't spare a fiver are selfish. Not everyone can spare money. Just because they sit on the computer in a warm house means they have spare money.

Im piggybacking on my parents internet connection or i wouldnt be able to afford the internet, nor the laptop they got my for my birthday/xmas present years ago...

I would donate... i probably could... but i donate elsewhere... at what point do i say 'no'? I chose children in need, i just get sick of people hassling me for money, if i want to donate money, i will do.

Playing God and thinking that your money actually goes to the people that need it.

It's my money, who are you to tell me how I should or shouldn't spend it. People who take the moral high ground and look down on people who don't donate to charity are lame, how do you expect to donate a fiver and all the materialism you've had since you were born to be forgiven, your idea of donating is selfish.

I must be selfish then. Perhaps I can console myself with all the voluntary work I do at weekends. Or even giving up my time to assist, in my own small way, on this forum.

Be careful you don't suffer oxygen sickness, mate, cos that is a VERY high horse you're on.

How on earth can a thread such as this end up in an argument?
