Hi all,

There is a large fish for sale in my local lfs but they do not know what it is other than a 'large chichlasoma'. I have tried to look it up on the interent but have found it could be any one of many fish!

Does anyone know what it is or can point me in the right direction?

Looks to be a 'true' parrot cichlid (Hoplarchus psittacus I think) to me.

Don't think it's a parrot variety.... True cichlid shape much in the line of the sunfish (or Acara) species... Not sure though.

I think CFC has some true parrots i am sure they look exactly like that one but more greener.

it is indeed a Hoplarchus Psittacus. I have never kept them myself, but from what I have heard water params must be spot on and that they are prone to HITH. until recently they had been considered very very hard to breed in captivity and there is a high chance that it is a wild caught fish. I only know of one hobbist that has bred them in home aquaria and that was in the last couple months.
