I have a 450 litre tank with a few large-ish cichlids - two green severums, two angels and two blue acaras and there is starting to be a little bit of mild squabbling going on.

I have been thinking of getting a school of 'dither' fish to see if that calms things down a little bit.

I was going to get a school of 10 black skirt tetras, but I also wanted a splash of red in the tank, so I was wondering if a small group (say 5?) of male cherry barbs would go okay too?

My main concern is are they going to be quick enough/broad bodied enough not to be eaten by the severums and acaras (angels I doubt would). Especially because I will probably have to buy juveniles.

Anyone kept cherry barbs with bigger cichlids without them being eaten?

Other fish in the tank are cories, kuhlies, a rainbow shark, and two white skirt tetras

Thanks :)

A rather shy fish, I would think they would be regarded as food and eaten, or else hide away to prevent that.

Cherry Barbs are not, in my experience, good in groups, they seem to do better as a pair or trio 1 male 2 females.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I went to my LFS today and saw some beautiful Odessa barbs and fell in love. I've brought six of those home, they are quite a bit bigger than the cherry barbs I could have gotten, and they are schooling quite nicely! Theiir colours are coming out more and more and they look stunning. I'm very happy with them, think they have turned out to be the much better choice.
