Hey everyone! I am new to this forum. I have had a 10 gallon tank for a very long time now. It used to be my brothers. It now has 2 gold fish, 2 cherry barbs and one little zebra fish. He had rescued 5 goldfish a while back. Only 2 had survived. Since he moves alot, he finally threw the gold fish in with the barbs and zebra. They all seem to get along swimmingly, and have for about 3 years now. My question is, what else could I add? I just got a 29 gallon tank. They are all now in the new tank and happy! I would like to add a few more fish. I was told that gold fish don't usually live with tropical fish, but they have been together for years and are just fine. Any suggestions on what is safe to add?? I am looking for something bright colored preferrably. Thanks!
well first of all goldfish and tropicals shouldn't be mixed, the 2 goldfish will need at least a 30 gal, maybe have the goldfish in the 29 then tropical in the 10? and get some of the fish suggested in this topic recommendations for a 10 gal
There is a difference between "looking fine" and actually "being fine" If you don't have a heater the tropicals are suffering, and if you do, the goldifhs are. The goldfish will b ok alone in the 29 gallon, as they need 30 gallons together, but they are MASSIVE waste producers, so you should do water changes 3 or 2 times a week. Leave the barbs and "zebra fish" (sebra danio?) in the 10 gallon and get them some more friends of the SAME SPECIES as they are schooling fish. When that is done your tanks will be stocked and you won't be able to put anything else in.
