hello people,

ive just bought 5 cherry barbs a week ago which have settled in nicely, just wondering would it be ok to add guppies in the same tank?

thanx

its a 54L tank and yes its just finished cycling, atm ive got 10 neon tetra's and 5 cherry barbs

well based on what you have in there for nearly a 12 gal tank,at a inch per fish i would say you're at your limit if not over,i'm sure others can help more if i am wrong :)

10 neon tetras 1.5" each =15 inches
5 cherry barbs 2" each = 10 inches

I would say no as the neon tetra would nip the guppies tails.

I had about 50 guppies (wouldn't stop breeding) in with my school of neons and never did one of them nip a guppy. I have never herd of neons nipping either. Also I had 2 cherry barbs which were fine with the guppies also.

Also the inch per gallon rule is a silly rule to begin with.

I'd try neons with guppies in my tank..But u shouldnt as ur tank is tiny..Maybe upgrade ur tank size then add other fish but really with ur tank i assume u have a small HOB filter (fluval 1+ or similar?) and no real space so ur very restriced with what u can have

I have 3 adult guppies and 3 babys, 9 neons, and 2 cory cats in a 10 gal.
This is slightly overstocked, but if you are willing and able to do the proper care then the rule can generally be raised to 1.5-2 inch of fish per gal.
I havent had a problem with my guppies and neons, just keep the neons in groups, this will keep nipping down.

Ive always been told that for every litre its 0.5" tropical fish but hey
