I just bought a 75 gallon tank from a guy. it has a wood stand. He said that he had split chemicals in the bottom. There in a strong odor associated with it. When would be the best way to get the odor out??

Did he give you any clue what the chemical was?

Nope. He just said it spilled and he figured the smell would go away.

Do not use, If he wont tell you what the spill is and he's selling the tank it's something baaaaaaaad.

It not that he wont tell, he just didnt know. It was outside when i was looking at it, so the smell was very minimal. but now its in my basement and it is stronger. and i already bought it. It was twenty dollars. i couldnt really pass it up regardless of the smell

Sorry, I'm a bit confused; was the spill in the tank, or on the stand?

Okay; that's better anyway

What sort of smell is it? You could try vinegar, bleach or bicarbonate of soda; they're all pretty good odour neutralisers.

Oh in the stand, Not the tank? Nevermind then.

pure vinegar? or do i mix it with water or something?

Hi,
I use vinegar to clean my fridge and bin... Well anything really that has begun to smell!
I use 50% water 50% vinegar on fridge and 75% vinegar on the bin because it needs an extra boost!
You can also use it neat.
Use the White/clear distillers vinegar not the type you put on chips :)
Also I cut a lemon in half and just put it in the offending place for a couple of days.
Same thing can apply to the stand
