Anyone any ideas as to why my checker barbs are popping their clogs ? I've lost 3 in last couple of days. All other fish in tank, swordtails, neons, guppies, bristlenose and redfin tetras are fine. Tank is not over populated, Ph, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia are all as they should be for this group of fish and they are not overfed. It sure has got me puzzled as they showed no sign of usual diseases and were all around a year old.

Best regards

the suden death of fish with no obvious symptoms is usually an indicator of a baterial infection.
do you have any anti-bacterial meds to hand?
I'd firstly perform a 50% water change in case there is an untestable toxin in the tank
then start the treatment course.

Temperature of tank is a constant 70-72 degrees
Ph = 6.80
Nitrate = 0.00
Nitrite = 0.00
Ammonia = 0.05

40-45% water changed 2 days ago when 1st one died

Rest of checker barbs are lively and eating, swimming mormally.

Perhaps it's just coincidence (and a bit of bad luck). I'll just keep an eye on things for next few days.

Only change recently is female swordtail giving birth to about 15 fry (but only managed to save 6)

Thanks
Humf
