I got this really special piece of driftwood. Paid way too much money for it...well i didnt ...gotta love a good girlfriend lol. But now that I have this piece on the way. Any advice in getting into to sink fast and if and how much this is going to affect the pH of my water which is now at 7.0???? and will it affect the type of fish I can put in with it??? My friend was saying that certain fish will eat at the wood ???

What do you think ? ? ?

Nice piece, when you get it, you will need to soak it in hot water/preferably boiling to make sure its completely clean and free of nasties, I would suggest you use the bath to do this unless you have a very large tub you can put it in, I use my bath when I got large pieces of redmoor root (which I think is what that is), scrub it thorougly too.

It could take a few weeks to sink, so when you put it in your tank, weight it down with something, Ive used heavy rocks as mine hasnt yet soaked enough to sink. It will after a few days grow a white fungus on it (unless its been submerged before by previous owner), its harmless, you can scrub it off, however, Ive found that scrubbing it off, makes it grow back quickly, so I left mine in and slowly the fungus disappears, also my fish seem to enjoy eating it, plus I have an apple snail and BN plec chomping happily away on the fungus.

To my knowledge it wont effect your ph, like bogwood or mopani can, so no need to worry about that.
