cheapest and easiest catfish to look after

Hi trout_pout :)

You're just starting out in fishkeeping, aren't you?

Well, you won't go wrong adding some of these little C. aeneus to your tank. Either the bronze or the albino would make a good choice. Here's some links with information about them:

Corys are schooling fish and to keep them you will need at least 2 or 3. The most important thing, if you have them, is to keep the bottom of the tank clean.

Cories can take air from the surface if there is insufficient amounts of it in the water. I don't know if other cats can do that tho :dunno:

Corys
Bristlenose
Upsidedown Catfish
Banjo Catfish

You should still feed it, it would be like a human living of plants, they could but it wouldn't be very healthy, even in the wild Bristlenoses eat other stuff than algae

I don't think so, but they will get uneaten food at the bottom.

The best small algae eaters are otocinclus -- they look like teeny plecos but they school, and they are a bit fussy about water quality, but they are adorable

No, they are more Omnivore. They will eat algae but if it could get bloodworm, algae wafers, sinking pellets etc. as well it will be a much better and healthier Bristlenose. Like people, we can survive on chips all the time but we would be healthier if we ate meat, veggies and fruit etc. A varied diet is always better. You should try to give him different foods say three times a week and the other four days it should munch on the algae.

is it possible to spoil it on cabbage and live bloodworms so it doesnt eat algae anymore? just curious
