Now, I apologize for this post, but I really don't know anyone who really understands my little fishy joys. None of my irl friends quite get my attention to my two boys, and they understand it even less when I point at a fish at a pet store and say, "Isn't he cute?" Their usual reaction is, "Uh, it's a fish."

I went to the Salvation Army today, about 15 minutes before closing. I try and go at intervals, for fish bowls. While I was there, I finally saw a 1G bowl there. It's about the same shape as my other Salvation Army finds, so I can still set my two boys (Sori and Furin) side by side and watch them 'dance'. The lady there was asking for $1.50, so I jumped on my bike and shot to the nearest ATM machine, and came back about 5 minutes before closing.

So, now I own three 1.25G bowls for my two bettas. I need one more, and water changing day will be soooo much easier.

For reference, a bowl of the same model and size would cost $19.99 new, at the only pet store in town.

I got a great one gallon bowl that is round at a crafts store on sale for $1.87. I love it and it works great!

good luck with your bowls too :)

aaah, thank you. owning these two fish is such an extravagence, to me.

in my last job, i saved for something like a year, to travel to Japan. in that trip, i found a pet shop that sold hikari pellets for (around) a dollar each (in japan). i bought 3 of them, and bought a second betta. while i, myself, am broke, i continue to look for good deals to keep my bettas in the lap of betta luxury.

i know, i barely have the money to pay for my own life, but to have my cat and my two bettas, it's lovely. it's like, the lap of luxury. all i gotta do, is keep my fishies ijn clean water, and they're A-OK.

i know i'm a selfish kid, but i do kinda try to keep these two boys in good health. and they seem to have so much... *fun*, when they visit each other.

while i promised for ages, to only have one, i think they'd actually be lonely little fish, if i stuck to my previous promise.

soritan, I have my second betta now in a 1 gallon bowl and so far he is doing great!

My first betta who just died a few months ago lived for 4 years in less than a half gallon bowl, happily I believe. He was NEVER sick. A few month before he died he stopped eating for about 2 days, scared me to death, I medicated his water and he was fine. :)

Assuming he was 1 year old when I got him from the pet store, and I had him at home for 4 years.......he lived to be a ripe old age. He was such a sweetie and I loved having him.

good luck with your bettas. :)

bettas are such strange little guys, compared to other fish i have owned in the past. it honestly seems as though they ... you know, *notice* you. it's as if they have a sense of 'play', and a sense of 'self', before they know you.

i know i can't own more than 2 bettas, myself. i simply don't have the money to support it, but i've found that i have a sort of... attachment, to these little guys, tat i've never had for your random fancy goldfish before.

:/ yeah, i know. it makes me sound like a lonely little freak. while that may or may not be true (who am i to figure that little detail out?) i do enjoy my little sori and furin.

i am, as ever, just a shade amazed, at how.... personable, bettas are. every other fish i've ever had, seemed as though they'd be happy with the same 4-7 pellets a day from someone else, as they would me. however, with my little bettas, it's as though, if i weren't the one giving them the 3-7 pellets a day, they'd quietly opt towards a short starvation period.

i dunno. i'm just unaccustomed to a *fish* showing me signs of attachment.

someone on this board once said, that bettas are like little dogs living in water LOL I love that! they are such personable little fish.

*sigh* I suppose, I'm worried I can't keep them both, in clean water, all the time.

I know, that lots of you, have lots of bettas. But I'm worried, about me. 1 betta, I can keep. I can change out his water every other day in a 1.25G environment, I can keep him happy in what I got... but what about 2 bettas?

I'm not quite the geat person you all are. I can't pick up all the sickies that you all do, all those that need help, and need more than your standard person can provide.

i like owning two, to be honest. they seem, happiest, at two. they interact with each other, and all, but whild I attempt to care for them... i'm not sure that I have the fortitude that you'all got, here.

:/ I read your posts, here, and feel like such a bad 'mother'.

I am, however, happy to own two bettas. I don't often see a betta that makes me want to own more than two. the rare expetion was yesterday, where I went to the only pet store where I'm at, and saw a purple marble veiltail (my personal weakness), and crumpled a bit. he was so small, i wanted to haul him home right then, and just.......... you you, *figure something out* .... just, to get him away from the tiny 'less than 1cup' enviroment that he was in before. i wish i had the money to do that. i wish i could bring more than 2 bettas home and give them a great home.

i have 3 of those smaller hikari blend packages at home, do you think i could handle 4 bettas with that?
