Introduced 5 cardinals and 5 platinum tetras to my danio tank (55 gal)

3 days later nearly all are dead.

They are tiny fish, some disappeared' others started swimming at crazy angles.

One of each is ok.

Do such characins not thrive if there is a big current? temp 75? Water PH 7.5 ?

What was the ph of the store to your tank ph, did you climatise them properly to the tank.

higher if anything given the local water.

My suspicions are focussing on a 0.25ppm nitrite reading. I suspect ammonia.

Not affecting the danios or swordtails though

That's quite high do a water change, this is why you have lost the fish, how long has the tank been set up.

Approx 10 Days

However I thought by using the water from the old 20 gal tank and similarily using transferring all the filter contents to the new I would get away with it.

Fortunately all my danios are fine

:dunno:

Did you move some gravel to the tank from the old one as that helps, I would do a water change to help the fish out,if you have no scaless fish add some salt to the tank.

No it was all new gravel - well flourite and sand actually.

Will swap some water out tomorrow.

Not sure about the salt as the danios don't like it much (from experience0

Thanks Wilder
