Hi,

My current Fluval 4+ in a 40g tank keeps slowing down dramatically and risking the lives of the inhabitants, I think it's time to upgrade but I'm not sure which external is the right choice.

I've been looking at the fluval 205's, but would rather get an external that's suited for a larger aquarium. My budget is around 50/60 quid - has anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers,

Paul.

For an extra £20 you could get a Eheim Pro II 2026.... I ordered mine couple of weeks back from www.zooplus.co.uk the water in my tank has never been clearer!!! :)

We have an Fluval 305 for our 42g tank, never had any problems with it. We paid £69.99 from Maidenhead Aquatics which is one of the cheaper places to get one. There's no reason you couldn't have a Fluval 205 for that size tank, it would do the job and again MA have them for £59.99.
Hope that helps. :)

I had similar problems with an internal fluval always clogging up. So I was very fortunate to win a Eheim 2128 :D . A bit above your budget, but moving to an external is a very good move. the new Tetratec filters have had a very good response.

Have a look a couple of posts down 'New External Filter, How big should I go?', go here and use the 10% discount from the post to buy the filter you want!

zooplus 10% off code CJ11PET493

got my eheim 2026 with media for £72 delivered from them the other week there.
