Hi there,
Im thinking of changing the appereance of my 2.5 gal betta tank,it looks so dull at the minute. With just blue gravel and fake plants,i feel sorry for my betta and my newt and ADF! :(
So,how do you go about changing gravel,do you just take all the water out, take the gravel out, then put in the new one,and put the water backi in or new water? But what happens to all the bacteria? Will i need to cycle it again or can i add the fish back in straight away?
Thanks alot

When i did my 180 litre i took 30% of the water out and took as much of the gravel out as poss then did a norm water change.

The next morning i went back to it and took 40-50% of the water out and took the rest of the gravel out, after the new gravel had been cleaned very thouroughly i placed it cup by cup into the new tank then filled the water back up as of yet (3 weeks have passed) no fish have died or become ill.

Im sure u can adapt what i did in some way

So long as ur filter is kept in reasonable tank conditions, eg.) in a bucket (fish only, no cleaning agents) full of old tank water and heater, with fish aswell. u wil be fine, jus put the old water in, as alot of ur bacteria is in the filter it wont be a problem.
