Changing From Gravel To Sand

i have a 160l tank with gravel at the bottom but in the LFS today i seen a few tanks with sand in them and i really liked the look of them. is it just a matter of removing the gravel and putting in sand or does it matter what type of fish are in there?

i have a variety of tetras, guppies, mollies, algae eater, and a pleco in there.
