Changing Filter

hi i have just added a external filter to my tank ,
how long should i wait before removing the old internal one
im guessing i need to wait for good bacteria to grow in my new fillter ?

I'd give it a month, but as long as the substrate has'nt been changed as well you should be ok in a couple of weeks.

If it is a floss-type internal filter, just take the media and add it to you power filter. Then you can remove the box immediately.

If it's a sponge or similar, Fat Boy's advice is perfect.
