Please HELP!!

This is my setup…………..

The Tank
Modified TropiQuarium 88
JBL CO2 system
2 X 18 watt Aqa Glo Lamps (wish I had room for more)
130 L
Temp 26.4
pH 6.4 ppm
KH 3.5 ppm
GH 14 ppm
Nitrate NO 10 ppm
Nitrite N0 ppm
CO2 39.2 mg/l
Bubbles / min 36

The Fish
3 X Gold Rams (Lost one due to filter change)
4 X Clown Loaches
2 X Panda Cory's
1 X Pleco
1 X Siamese Flying Fox
10 X Neon Tetras
10 X Cardinal Tetras
6 X White Fin Tetra
6 X Glass (Ghost) Catfish

Plants
Dwarf Anubias
Congo Water Fern
Green cabomba
Fountain Plant
Java Moss South-East Asia
Medium Amazon Sword
and one other that I can't identify

Filter / Heater / CO2
Eheim 2229 external (Changed for 2213)
Eheim aquaball internal
JBL CO2 Profiset 500
200 watt Visitherm Heater

It was all running well but the Eheim 2229 filter kept stopping for no apparent reason. After many frustrating restarts I was given an Ehime 2213 classic.
I disconnected the Eheim 2229 and put some of the mature filter media into the 2213, and connected it to the tank and went out for the day. On my return I noticed all the fish were at the top of the tank all gasping for air and one dead Ram. :-( I PANICED!!!

After calming myself down I took a water test to find that the Nitrate at 15 ppm and the Nitrite at 10 ppm. I then shut off the CO2 and turned on the air pumps and added some Tetra easybalence. The fish seemed to improve after some time and after keeping a vigilant eye on them through out the night they seemed to be a lot better but still breathing a little fast. Is there anything ells I can do or should have done?

Thanks in advance

A 30% water change to start off and reduce that Nitrite level immediately. Continue to do so on a daily basis until the levels return to normal.

If you really want to add some extra light, you could always rip apart the hood ! :D as I did here and modified my Tropiquarium 68.

You do know that you really cannot keep your clown loaches in anything less than a 70 gallon. 4 of those just will not grow and mature properly in a much smaller tank - especially one that's fairly highly stocked.

Did you rinse the mature filter media before moving it to the new filter? I would not have
Dirty water for a while is better than loosing bacterial population in a highly stocked tank...

I would get a cheap "waterfall" HOTB filter too; two filters is a great idea in a heavily stocked tank, even if one filter is very cheep, like a aquaclear 30.....

Thanks everyone for the advice.
Over the last few days I've been doing a 30% water change and this seems to be working. Although the fish are still not as they should be i.e not eating and still breathing a little fast. The main thing is that the nitrite levels are droping.

I was told by my LFS to put some Stess Zyme in the tank to speed up the bacteria in the filter is this ok?

Thanks

Yep that's fine :) It won't work miracles, but it might help a bit.
