I noticed one of my chacas couldn't be found for the last couple of days. Today I discovered him under a rock and he appears to have a huge open sore in front of his gill.

The water conditons are fine (although nitrates a little high) and our other chaca seems perfectly happy. What worries me is that when we first saw him in the shop a week ago, we noticed some clown loaches with what appeared to be a bad fungal infection in the same tank. We mentioned this to the assistant who said it was being treated and when we went to collect the chacas, the clowns seemed ok.

Both the chacas we bought came from the same tank and, like I said, the other one seems fine.

Here's a photo of our poor guy facing towards the left of the frame:

And another looking from the rear towards his front end:

As you can see, the hole is quite large and looks pretty deep.

We have added some Myxazin to the tank and hope this will help. He doesn't seem to want to eat anything. Any help would be most gratefully recieved - I hope we aren't too late to save him.

It certainly looks like the advanced stages of gill rot, adding the melafix will slow it down but you will need to use a more traditional chemical treatment to clear it up, i would personally recomend Interpet #9 anti bacterial medication which i have had good sucess with treating many internal and external bacterial infections. You can use the melafix at the same time as well to help speed the healing process up and prevent secondary infections.

OK, a quick update. I started the interpet stuff today and continue to use the myxazin. He has cuddled up with the other chaca and I haven't seem him do anything yet.

I managed to get a new piccie:

Is it just me or is that wound looking slightly smaller?
