Hi. I've brought 2 celebes halfbeaks from Trimar yesterday and they both arrived with white mouths. Is this normal? I have never kept these fish before..

There is no sign of a cotton wool like growth or anything but I havn't seen any pictures with the fish with white mouths. I guess the best thing to do is to call trimar.

I would check in the right part of the forum to see if the fish have white mouths, never kept them so don't no if its normal.
Signs of mouth fungus columnaris are, bleached out lips, cotton fungus on lips, mouth rotting away,.

No it isn't part of their normal colouration, however they sometimes damage their mouths by swimming into the glass. It is most common in wild caught fishes when they are put into an aquarium. They can't see the glass and swim into it. This damages the end of their mouth causing it to develop a white lump on the edge. This can lead to mouth fungus (Columnaris) but if the fish are healthy then it will often clear up by itself in a few weeks. However, due to the damage that Columnaris can cause, I would suggest you look at pictures of the disease and monitor your fish closely. If the white spreads across the mouth and gets worse, then treat it straight away with a broad spectrum anti-biotic medication.
