cds as relfelctors

some one on another post has mentioned using cds as reflectors, is this a good idea? ie will it be of any benefit to me?
 
just buy a roll of mylar off Ebay man...i got a roll for like $6 and used it on the light strip for my 20 long, 10 g, and 46g and still have some left...
 
i have relfectors already but the post mentioned something about increaasing the spectrum of the light as well? is that gonning to work or be halpful?

I can't think of any mechanism by which a cd would alter the spectrum of light, AFAIK this would require excitation of atoms leading to re-emition of light (as happens on the inside of a fluoresent tube).

I'm with you - They may split the light into visable colours but they cant possibly increase the light or the specturm output :)
 
Yeah but it would look good though...........100 cds lineing the inside of your hood :p
 
LOL, i think i may have mentioned it OTP. Its not gonna increase watts or whateva, itll just increase the amount entering your water! :) But if u have a reflector already i wouldnt see the need. :thumbs:
 
the white is good and is more functional than a dark color...however anything reflective, preferably mylar since it supposedly reflects 99% of the light or something like that, will work much better - increasing light output by up to 2 times
