Cave For A Female Betta

I'd say the second one, but it looks like you could easily make either of those yourself. That's what I would do, personally, or even just get a clay flowerpot and just turn it on its side.

hey. i like the first one better. it's different from the usual caves people make/have. The second one seems like you'd be paying too much (incl shipping) for a terra cotta pot with a hole cut in it. You can get those for like 25 cents at garage sales if you're lucky, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to cut that hole...

:good: Make your own from a coconut shell!! I have seen some great home-made ones----not sure ,but I think you have to boil the shell to make it sterile and safe for the bowl/tank. Someone please correct me if I am wrong :hyper:

Yeah, those two appear to be quite easilyi made. The first one is just two, short 8" diameter flowerpots glued together. and the second is just a flowerpot, upside down, with a hole in the middle. The only thing you would have difficulty with in making your own, would be the prefectly smooth hole edges. For my second job's office betta, I Just took many rounded shards of terra cotta and piled it atop one another, to achieve a sort of Syndey Opera effect. It's very sturdy.

I also just turn the pot on the side and use it for a cave. I've got some that are the terra cotta and some that are pretty blue glass. All were cheap and all are enjoyed by the bettas.

I had a question about the Terra pots... do you all make holes in the top as well? I would be worried about my fish going in then and then needing air and getting stuck because they might try to go up and there be no hole.

I have a castle for my girls which had a lot of hidey holes for them, and I also made a little cave from rocks found outside which I boiled and stuff of course. Why buy a little cave when you could easily make one yourself.
