Scientific name: Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus
Family: Characidae
Origin: Texas,Mexico, Central America

Feeding: They will accept most foods from flakes to live bloodworm.
Sexing and breeding: The females are slightly larger and wider, typical egg-layers. Get a group and allow them to pair, separate parents and feed live foods prior to spawning. Lowering the temperature can help to induce breeding.
Comments: A blind fish, born with eyes but as they grow older skin develops over them. They are a very active fish and fun to watch. They inhabit mostly the mid-level and have a tendency to swim on their side. Can be aggressive and may nip fins. You will often see them searching the floor for left over food.
