My boyfriend wants to get a kitten for his birthday but is worried about the pond in the garden.First having a cat killing the fish, then having the cat falling in.Could the cat be trained not to go near the pond from being young because ive heard you cannot train a cat.The ponds too big to get a grid over the top.Anyone got any help or ideas?

as a kitten it will be easy to train it.

take the kitten to the egde of the pond let it go and then splash some water on its face. repeate this daily for a week. the kitten will associate pond edge= getting wet

no harm to kitten, fish or you.

I trained 6 cats this way when I had a pond.

It works on older cats but take cup fulls of water and longer to train.

if it's gonna be an outdoor cat, definately train the way danio said. cats and kittens are very trainable.
