Just bought 3 catfish (unsure of gender or type - 2 are dark spotted like my pleco, 1 sort of dark but with a clear outline and a couple of reddish areas). Query is do they spend a lot of time sitting about on the gravel like a pleco or should they be milling about? 1 of the spotted ones is very active but the other 2 are quite lethargic and I'm worried they may be in trouble. They hardly move.

Some catfish mill around, and others like to stay still. If we knew what kind of catfish they are, someone with experience might come along and give you a great answer.

a picture is needed before any advice is given, as drobbyb says we need to know what they are?

First rule of fish keeping, not only should you learn the species names of fish you are buying but you should also do a little research Before they are purchased

Hi Dublin_Lad :)

If you can give me some more information I will move your thread to the appropriate specialty section.

If they are some kind of corydoras they will look something like this in shape, although they could be many different colors and patterns:

Or, do they have long, flowing barbels or some other outstanding feature?
